Continue reading to learn more about the best way for\nyou to help your child maintain a happy, healthy smile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When Do You Need to Begin Brushing Your Child\u2019s Teeth?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people don\u2019t know, but you can actually begin\nimplementing an oral hygiene routine just a few days after your child is born.\nIt is a good idea to use a clean washcloth or wet gauze in order to gently wipe\nyour baby\u2019s gums after each feeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your child\u2019s first tooth erupts, this is that time to begin\nbrushing with a small, soft-bristled toothbrush twice each day. You can allow\nthe brush to soak in warm water for a few minutes before brushing to soften the\nbristles even more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Do You Brush Your Child\u2019s Teeth?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>First, apply toothpaste to the brush. The American\nDental Association (ADA) recommends that you use a rice grain-sized amount of\ntoothpaste for children who are 0 to 3 years old. After this, a pea-sized\namount is sufficient. Be sure that the toothpaste that you choose contains\nfluoride. This is a natural mineral that is used in dentistry to protect and\nstrengthen the protective enamel of the teeth.<\/li><li>Angle the toothbrush at approximately 45 degrees\ntowards the gums. Gently move the toothbrush back and forth in order to reach\nthe chewing surfaces of the teeth.<\/li><li>In order to brush the front teeth, place the\ntoothbrush in a vertical position so that you clean both the front and back.<\/li><li>Gently brush your child\u2019s tongue in order to\nremove bacteria from the surface.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When Can Children Brush on Their Own?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You should brush your child\u2019s teeth for them until you are\nconfident that they can brush on their own. This is usually around the age of 6\nor 7, but every child is different. At this time, you should supervise them to\nensure that they are using the right amount of toothpaste and spit it out\ninstead of swallowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toothbrushing is extremely important when it comes to the\noral health of your children.
